June Festivals & Activities in Italy

Festivals & Activities in June

There's nothing quite like Italy in June...

The cool and salty breeze gently rolls off the sea waves as you order another glass of white wine. You take a bite of the crunchy bruschetta topped with fresh mozzarella and basil and tomatoes picked from the garden just moments before. Finished with a drizzle of olive oil, a pinch of salt, and freshly ground pepper, you could eat this every day. You look around, and your eyes lock onto the bright red poppies that are at their peak bloom. "We have to make this a tradition," you proclaim to your family, and you all make a vow to come back to Italy every June.

Italy is always filled with magical moments ready to happen, and in June, the magic is inescapable. The weather is divine, and the local scenes are bustling with food festivals and live music. What better time to experience true Italia!

June in Italia

You find yourself in the heart of Italy in June, and with so much to do, you might need some help figuring out where to start. Well, Tesori is here to help! Check out our dream list of June events in Italy below!

Infiorata Festivals-

June is the month of flowers in Italy! Italian native flowers such as bright red poppies, violets, bluebells, giant daisies, and periwinkle flowers all put on their best show in June. Therefore it's no wonder that there are flower festivals held across the country! The celebrations are called infiorata, meaning decorated with flowers.

The infiorata festivals began as a Catholic tradition in the 13th century and have since grown into a massive, immersive art exhibit. Lining the streets of several cities, you'll find extensive flower displays representing various religious figures. The bright flowers fill the streets with color, and you can smell the flower's freshness across the city. One of the largest infiorata festivals occurs in Genzano di Rome, where the tradition began, and another mentionable festival takes place in the town of Orvieta in Umbria.

In addition to flowers lining the streets, there will also be plenty of fresh flowers to pick up at the market! Check out Tesori's collection of Utensil holders to create a unique and charming flower vase!

Music-

If you're looking to experience some live music, there is plenty to go around in the month of June! From the Rock in Roma festival to seeing the Ballet at Teatro dell'Opera, there's something for everyone. In addition to more formal concerts, if you're walking down the streets, you might also find live music coming from a restaurant or bar, stumbling upon a hidden gem. When grabbing your morning espresso, ask your barista their favorite local spot for live music and food, and you'll be sure to find an unforgettable experience!

Food-

Walking the streets of Rome can work up quite the appetite; that's why a food tour is a perfect way to see the city and keep your blood sugar steady! Check out this Secret Food Tour that shows you some of the classics that Rome has to offer while also taking you to the historic markets.

Craving some authentic Italian pizza? Check out the pizza festival that takes place in Naples from late May to early June. There's also a festival in Sicily dedicated to drinking wine while taking in the arts, called Taobuk Book Festival. Another gem is the Finger Food Festival in Bologna!

There are also several olive oil tasting experiences, including this amazing one in Sicily! During the tour, you will learn how the trees are grown and cared for, how the olives are harvested, and how the delicious olive oil is completed. Another unforgettable tour takes place in Umbria. You'll be sure to want to take some home, so make sure to leave room in your suitcase!
